Nigerian rapper and actor Ikechukwu Onunaku, also known as Ikechukwu, has spoken out about his time at Mohits Records, the now-defunct record label controlled by D’banj and Don Jazzy.

In a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Ikechukwu explained that although he realises that divulging technical details of his time at the label could hurt D’banj, he wants to tell his truth because ‘the truth is the truth’.

According to him, D’banj used to pay him only N50,000 for events he was scheduled for, despite the fact that the actual charge was more than N1.5 million. He claimed the ‘koko master’ used to treat him as if he were doing him a favour.

However, he stated that D’banj later boosted the amount to N150,000 after receiving authorization from his mother, who was heavily involved in the label’s decision-making process.

Speaking further, Ikechukwu denied being involved in a physical conflict with D’banj years ago, stating that he functioned as D’banj’s bodyguard. He emphasised that nothing like that occurred.

Recall that in November 2022, Ikechukwu Onunaku took to hisInstagram page to raise alarm about his mental health.

He tagged music executives, Don Jazzy and Johnny Drille, to the post and wrote,

“Shey u wan know. Oya na I don tell you
After una go say na joke. I’m not alright”
