Tyla and Ayra Starr previously cooperated on the smash song ‘Girl Next Door.’

Other artists such as Davido, have also extended his congratulations to the young songstress.

“Congratulations on your win @Tyllaaaaaaa! Big One for Africa! Keep soaring!,” Davido wrote on his X page.

Ayra Starr said in an interview days before the award event that she had already planned her Grammy acceptance speech.

Water” is a song by South African singer Tyla, released as the lead single from her debut studio album Tyla on 28 July 2023 through Fax and Epic Records.

An amapiano song with elements of pop, R&B, and Afrobeats, it sees Tyla expressing a desire for a passionate and intimate tryst.

The song topped Rolling Stone’s list of the 40 best Afropop songs of 2023 and won the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. It was also nominated for Best International Song at the 2024 BRIT Awards.

Water” reached number one in New Zealand and the top ten in Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, Sweden, and the United States, where Tyla became the youngest-ever South African and the first South African soloist in 55 years to enter the Billboard Hot 100, following Hugh Masekela’s “Grazing in the Grass” in 1968.
