INEC Confirms Delivery of Sensitive Materials Ahead of Lagos-By-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos State confirms that the Central Bank of Nigeria has sent sensitive materials for the Surulere Federal Constituency I by-election on Saturday, 3 February.

Prof. Ayobami Salami, the state’s INEC resident electoral commissioner, confirmed this and informed reporters that the commission was ready for the poll.

Salami said, “We have taken delivery of the sensitive materials today. We are in the last phase of the process of the by-election.

“We have taken the ballot papers and the results sheet for Saturday’s by-election. It is clear to everyone that we are ready for the election.”

In the interest of transparency, he said, the panel had invited officials from security services and political parties to observe the exercise.

The state REC has affirmed the transparency of the commission because the confidential documents are safe and undamaged.

He said materials will be sent from the state headquarters to the 258 polling places and six wards that comprise Surulere Federal Constituency I starting on Friday.

According to reports, 12 candidates from different political parties will be contesting in the election.

The seat became vacant after Femi Gbajabiamila, Resigned and was appointed Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
