Despite the correction, a sizable number of netizens continued to believe the story of Oladips’ death, even organising funeral ceremonies and candlelight processions in his honour.
Some social media users have accused the singer of staging the false death in order to capitalise on the posthumous success that followed the death of ex-Marlian signee Mohbad several months ago under unexplained circumstances.
The apparent envy originated from the assumption that Mohbad’s career took off following his death, resulting in increased attention and success.
Some internet users speculated that Oladips, looking for a similar boost in his own career, went to the extreme extent of faking his own death.
