In preparation for the forthcoming Imo Governorship elections to hold on the 11th of August 2023, Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has urged indegenes of the state to massively support and vote for the Guber Candidate of the party, Anhathan Achonu.

While speaking at the flag off of the governorship campaigns in the state, Obi reiterated that  Achonu is the party’s only governorship candidate and Julius Abure as the only Chairman of the party in Nigeria.

Obi also emphasized that the process that produced the flag bearer was free and credible.

In his words:

“Abure is the national chairman of our party. We don’t have another chairman. LP will win Imo state,” Obi announced.

“Athan Achonu is the only candidate of the party and he is the best in Imo State. I am happy nobody has changed the process. I believe in process.

“LP wants to change Nigeria; we are asking Nigeria for the opportunity. Give us chance in Nigeria, there would be change. In Abia State today there is hope, that is what is called governance.

“I believe in process. Achonu emerged through the right process. Vote for LP and things will start happening.”

Obi in his remark also pointed Abia as a good example of the product of good governance.

On his part, the governor of Abia, Alex Otti, said he was the chairman of the panel that conducted the primary election that produced Achonu as the governorship candidate of LP in the state.

He urged the people of the state to vote for Achonu, and said that he was not even up to 100 days in office and good things are already happening in the state.

After receiving the party’s flag, Achonu promised to fix the state if he wins the governorship election.

Amongst other promises made were prompt payment of salaries, pensions, provision of adequate electricity and good healthcare.

Achonu will be going head on with the incumbent Governor of the State, Hope Uzodinma who is seeking a second term.
