APC caucus recommends Muslims for Nat’l chairman and secretary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caucus has reportedly tendered a recommendation to have the party pick both Muslims as Chairman and Secretary.

Reports gathered by cyber reporters online reveals that this decision was made after a caucus meeting by the party’s senior officials yesterday.

The caucus recommended former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the acting National Chairman and the immediate past spokesperson for the Senate, Senator Ajibola Basiru, as the acting National Secretary.

The decision has been met with criticism from some members of the party, who have accused the leadership of the party of being insensitive to the religious balance in the country, Daily Sun reports.

“
It is surprising that they could approve Muslim-Muslim for the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party,”

said one source close to the NWC. “The implication is that the ruling party is now parading Muslim President, Vice President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker, party’s National Chairman and National Secretary.

“I don’t think anything can change, but we have to put it on record that the actions of the leaders of the party is insensitive and condemnable. Despite the complaints that trailed the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, the pressure to sacrifice Abdullahi Adamu over religious imbalance, they still went ahead to impose Muslims Chairman and Secretary. It is very unfair,”

the source noted.

The recommendation of the National Caucus is unlikely to be challenged at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which is ongoing.

This is confirming speculations that hit the airwaves last week, that Ganduje may be the anointed for the office of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

It will be recalled that former national Chairman of the party, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu and former Secretary Salihu Lukeman both resigned from their offices last month, July, 2023
