Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has denounced judges who allegedly take bribes to pervert justice.

On Thursday, Fubara gave the following speech at the start of the 2024/2025 Legal Year and Re-Dedication Service at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Anglican Communion, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

The governor chastised legal experts for compromising their ethics in order to twist the law in favor of their “paymasters.” He observed, “Some of you, claiming to be legal luminaries, know the truth but still go on air to satisfy your paymasters, twisting the law upside down…” “God will judge you.”

Fubara underlined that judges represent God in the legal system and should render decisions without fear or bias. He cautioned that the far-reaching consequences of court rulings necessitate extreme caution in their conclusions. “You, judges, are the God that we perceive. Your role is to stand and protect us, to tell the truth to everybody who comes before you.”

Despite calculated antagonisms against his administration, Fubara expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Judiciary, particularly the High Court Divisions, for their unwavering support. He acknowledged that many judicial officers had faced threats, physical assaults, and frivolous petitions meant to intimidate them into submission.

The governor urged judges to remain steadfast and resist pressure to compromise justice, saying, “Be courageous. Very soon, this whole thing will be over. Nothing lasts forever.”
