Gunmen stormed Rumuepirikom community, the hometown of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and started shooting heavily.

Reports say the chaos began when unknown gunmen stormed the area, warning residents not to participate in the polls.

It was gathered that as electoral officers arrived at the ward in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, armed gunmen also descended on the scene, unleashing heavy gunfire and sending panicked residents fleeing.

The situation turned dire as the unidentified gunmen continued to exchange fire, effectively discouraging people from casting their votes.

Reports indicate that at least one person suffered a bullet injury and was rushed to a nearby health facility for urgent medical attention.

Rumuepirikom, where the gunmen attacked, is a community in Rivers State, where Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, hails from.
