The House of Representatives has quizzed officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Service over charges that controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, bribed the two agencies following his April conviction and punishment for naira misuse, Cyber Reporters report.

A social media critic VeryDarkMan, had released an audio recording purportedly made by Bobrisky, in which he claimed that after his conviction and sentencing, an unnamed godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment.

In the audio shared by VDM, Bobrisky was alleged to have claimed that he paid as much as N15m to EFCC officials to drop the money laundering charges against him.

During the hearing, both the EFCC and NCoS officials disputed the bribery charges. The EFCC denied reports that Bobrisky paid N15 million to have the money laundering charges against him dismissed, while the NCoS argued that Bobrisky completed his sentence at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre, not in a private flat, as claimed.

Anugwa told the Reps Joint Committee on Monday that when Bobrisky was transported to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos, he refused to consume the jail meals and instead made personal arrangements for his feeding. He noted that this technique is protected by the country’s laws.

On April 5, 2024, the Federal High Court in Lagos convicted Bobrisky and sentenced him to six months in prison for naira misuse. On August 5, 2024, the self-proclaimed “Mummy of Lagos” was released after reports that he was given preferential treatment while in detention because of his media popularity.
