The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has suspended its campaign for the forthcoming Local Government election in the state following the demise of the Akwa Ibom State First Lady, Patience Umo Eno.

Cyber Reporters had reported that the First Lady died on Thursday in an undisclosed hospital after a brief illness.

Her death was revealed in a statement made Friday morning by the state’s Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ini Emembong.

In response to the tragic occurrence, Edwin Ebiese, the PDP spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, issued a statement announcing that campaign activities had been paused.

He said, “This devastating news has left our party, and indeed the entire state, in mourning.

“As we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, we are compelled to pause our campaign activities as a mark of respect for the departed First Lady.”

Recall that the Local Government election is expected to be held in the 31 LGAs of the state on October 5, 2024.
