Former President Goodluck Jonathan recently addressed the rooth cause of conflicts in Africa, attributing them to the struggle for power.

Jonathan shared his insights at an event commemorating the International Day of Peace in Abuja, organized by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and its partners.

He emphasized that Africa’s conflicts are largely driven by contestation for power and expressed concern about Nigeria’s situation.

The former president believes that until the country develops a culture of peace, political conflicts will persist.

Jonathan stressed the importance of peaceful elections, citing the recent governorship election in Edo State, where tensions ran high due to concerns about irregularities.

He also noted that technology alone cannot solve Nigeria’s electoral issues, as corrupt individuals can manipulate it.

Jonathan advocated for a shift in mindset, emphasizing the need to cultivate a culture of peace.

He disputed the notion that politics is inherently dirty, instead blaming corrupt individuals for the negative perception.

By addressing these conflicts, Nigeria can work towards a more peaceful and democratic future, Jonathan concluded.
