The Abia State Government has unveiled intentions to implement the new minimum wage in October 2024, Cyber Reporters report.

Prince Okey Kanu, Commissioner for Information, stated this in Umuahia during a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting, saying the payment will apply to all kinds of workers.

He stated that the decision was in fulfillment of Governor Alex Otti’s promise to Abia workers.

The Commissioner further stated that the decision demonstrated the current administration’s dedication to the wellbeing of workers.

Recall that, following extensive talks with labor, the Federal Government recently approved N70,000 as the new minimum wage.

The Commissioner also stated that the State Government would begin building of ultramodern courthouses in each of the state’s 17 Local Government Areas within the next two weeks.

This, he claims, is to ensure that the “administration of justice is not impeded in any way.”

He also intimated that the Governor would kick the building of a 19.4-kilometer road in Isiala Ngwa North and South LGAs “under the RAMP project.”

The Commissioner ascribed Abia State’s outstanding success in the recently released National Examination Council (NECO) results to the current administration’s ongoing education reforms.
