Former Senate President has strongly denounced the murder of innocent Nigerians in Yobe State by alleged rebels on Tuesday, September 3.

In an statement in Abuja, Lawan urged security services to find the offenders and prosecute them.

He urged interventionist organizations to immediately assist the victims by offering them psychological, medicinal, and physical support.

Lawan said: “I condole with the families of the victims who lost their lives in the recent insurgent attack on Mafa village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe state.

“The attack, which occurred at about 4 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2024, resulted in the deaths of several innocent civilians, and the burning and destruction of properties.

“I strongly condemn the heinous act of violence and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Similarly, I condole His Excellency, the Yobe State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mai Mala Buni (CON), the Yobe state Government and the entire people of Yobe state.

“I call on the security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down the perpetrators of this heinous and dastardly act and bring them to justice.

“I call on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and North East Development Commission (NEDC) to dispatch medical personnel and relief materials to the affected community to provide necessary assistance and support to the injured and displaced residents.
