The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheeb Ayilara has passed away.
According to reports, Ayilara passed away at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja early on Thursday morning.
Family-close sources who spoke with The Nation revealed that he passed away a few hours after undergoing surgery on Wednesday for prostate cancer.
The family was quoted as saying; “We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead.”
Ayilara was introduced as the interim Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023 while still a DCP.
AIG Idowu Owohunwa was replaced as head of the State Criminal Investigation Department by Ayilara, a former deputy commissioner of police.
In February 2024, Ayilara was assigned by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to lead the Akwa Ibom State Command.
