A 38-year-old woman, Amarachukwu Nzekwe, has been arrested for allegedly torturing her 13-year-old nephew with hot laundry iron in Anambra State.
The incident, which took the online media space, was brought to the attention of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfre, Ify Obinabo.
The suspect, a nurse from Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area claimed that her nephew, the victim stole from her.
After the abuse, she supposedly locked him up at home without proper medication attention.
She said: “I disciplined him after he stole from me.”
While speaking after rescuing the victim, the Commissioner said the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigations.
Obinabo gave a stern warning to intending offenders to desist or face the law, insisting that such a dastardly act would not be tolerated in the state.
She however guaranteed that justice would be served.
She said: “It is important to note that the culprit is without her own child, the reason her little nephew was kept under her care.”
