The Nigeria Labour Congress has verified that its national office in Abuja was raided by security personnel from the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday night.

According to NLC spokesperson Benson Upah, the security guards were arrested late Wednesday and forced to hand over keys to the second-floor offices.

The operatives then burst through the floor, looted the bookstore, and took hundreds of books and magazines.

The NLC criticized the incursion as illegitimate and a breach of democratic norms.

The organization demanded an international inquiry into the incident and the return of the stolen materials.

The invasion occurred just hours after the NLC’s National Executive Council meeting, where members condemned the high-handed manner in which security agents handled protesters during the #EndBadGoverance protests.

The NLC has directed its staff to stay away from the office until further notice and warned that if the harassment continues, it may call on its members to stay home until their safety and security are assured.
