Former Governor of Zamfara State and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has decried a plot by his successor, Dauda Lawal to get him sacked by sponsoring untrue stories about his administration.

Mattawalle who appeared in an interview DCL Hausa, refuted the allegations leveled against his administration and himself by Dauda’s camp.

Matawalle was Governor of Zamfara State from 2019-2023, after losing a shot at a second term to candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Dauda Lawal.

Among the allegations leveled against the former governor are financial misappropriation, security compromise and money laundering through the state cargo airport project.

Matawalle was also accused of instructing the ministry of local government to withdraw N1 billion from the local government joint account on October 25, 2021, and to pay N825 million to contractors without proper valuation.

However, Mattawalle while refuting the claims also asserted that the present administration in the state were sponsoring a campaign of calumny against him.

Adding that some of the said problems existed before his government.

He accused Dauda of intentionally sabotaging his projects before construction of new projects.

In his words:

“On the issue of the airport road, after Dauda became governor, he deceived the people by saying he was going to repair the airport road, only for him to take a bulldozer there and scrap the road we already constructed.”

He also accused Dauda of carrying out the same act with the ruga project in the state, thereby causing financial harm to the people.

The Minister Insisted that the current Governor’s moves were only causing more damage to the people of Zamfara State.

Matawalle in his interview affirmed that one of the airport roads constructed in him had costed over 4 billion naira but was destroyed by his successor to drive a bad narrative about him.
