Nigeria’s organized labour unions, the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Traders Union Congress have resolved to start a nationwide strike on the 14th of November 2023.

This is coming on the heels of a decision reached after the leadership of both unions convened an executive council meeting, today, Nov 7th 2023.

According to the statement, mobilization is o begin the industrial action we’re already in motion.

This is coming after the National President of the Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero was brutalized and arrested in Imo State, following his attendance of a protest in the state.

Members and loyalists of the union and it’s president have accused the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Barde, of laxity in the face of such attacks.

The Organised Labour’s decision is coming after the expiration of a 5 day ultimatum given to the federal government to redeploy the state commissioner of police in Imo State.

However, while the union blames the governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma of high handedness, the governor has in return blamed the union’s president of mixing party politics with activism.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had on Sunday, redeployed Barde on the grounds of fostering neutrality.
