Former Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Mr Doyin Okukpe has come under heavy criticism for commending the Tinubu led administration.

Doyin Okukpe

Doyin Okukpe who served as a place holder for Peter Obi’s running mate and a staunch supporter of the Labour Party campaign appraised the starting of Tinubu’s government via his official Twitter handle.

In his series of tweets, Doyin appraised the president for starting well by “hitting the ground sprinting” also expressed satisfaction at some of Tinubu’s new policies.

For President Bola Tinubu: Still Many Rivers to Cross.

Excerpts of the tweets which read:

President Bola Tinubu actually hit the ground sprinting; showing much determination, zeal commitment and courage. He has taken 2 extraordinarily bold steps by abolishing fuel subsidy and equalizing foreign exchange.

This without doubt is causing very severe pain and hardship on the populace. However, in order to ground these policies properly, and reduce the pain on the populace, the President will still need to take more bolder steps.

The Advice

The former spokesman to former President Goodluck Jonathan also emphasized that the president must take more brave steps like quitting OPEC (Organization of petroleum exporting countries)

In the light of these recommendations, some Nigerians have expressed disappointment at the take of the Labour Party Chieftain.

This is coming on the heels of the fact that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal is still in motion.

Fuel subsidy removal: States to get 5B each Naira as palliative funds

Some of the tweets from Nigerians have accused Doyin of trying to curry Favour from the new administration, while some believe he was never loyal from the onset.

Mordi Vincent says:

I just unfollowed you Mr Okupe! This man here who claims to be a pastor clearly shows that ALL politicians are the same. Their loyalty only resides where their stomach leads.

Frank says:

Oga don dey dance to Renewed Shege blues. EFCC na your mate? They steal public funds and then search for a hiding place under another corrupt politician.

While these and many more knocks have come, some other Nigerians have commended Mr Doyin for his sportsmanship, saying this is what opposition should do.

In his worlds:

Thank you @doyinokupe . This is my idea of what opposition should be; pressuring govt with alternate policies that should move the nation forward thereby creating a clear pathway and understanding for ppl who want to queue up behind such policies or ideologies because it provides education as well.

Hopefully, moving forward we should expect this kind of interposition of ideas on national discourse from oppositions; after all it is still one Nigeria for all Nigerians.

Doyin Okukpe served as a director general of the Labour Party presidential campaign council before he resigned due to corruption charges from the EFCC.
