Former Manchester City winger Kiki Musampa has been arrested on suspicion of alleged tax fraud amounting to nearly £100,000.
The 48-year-old, best remembered in England for his loan spell at Manchester City in 2005, was detained by Dutch police on Tuesday following a raid at his residence.
According to reports from the Netherlands, authorities seized documents and luxury watches, while Musampa’s 65-year-old accountant was also taken into custody.
The Netherlands’ Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIDO) alleges that Musampa falsely declared himself an overseas tax resident while continuing to earn an income in the country.
By doing so, investigators claim, he defrauded the tax authorities of over €100,000 (£86,500).
It is further alleged that the former winger has faced long-standing tax difficulties, including the repossession of a property in Amsterdam in previous years.
Musampa was released from custody on Wednesday afternoon but remains under investigation.
Musampa currently works with Ajax, serving as assistant manager of their reserve side, Jong Ajax.
Reacting to the news, a club spokesperson said: “We are aware of Kiki Musampa’s arrest, but think it is too early to react to it in detail.”
