Spanish club Sevilla has confirmed the mutual termination of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract, ending his time at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán earlier than expected.

Iheanacho still had two years remaining on his deal, which was due to run until June 2026, but fell out of favour under manager Matías Almeyda, who opted for other attacking options this season

The Nigerian international joined Sevilla in 2024 after leaving Leicester City.

He made 11 appearances and scored three goals before being loaned to Middlesbrough in January, where he played 15 matches in the Championship, contributing one goal and two assists.

Despite returning for preseason in Spain, Iheanacho was excluded from Sevilla’s opening three La Liga matchday squads, prompting both parties to agree on an early separation.

With his release confirmed, Iheanacho is now a free agent and has been strongly linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic, who are keen to strengthen their attacking line.

A transfer remains possible even outside the deadline window, since he is unattached.
