West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paquetá has been officially cleared of spot-fixing allegations following a ruling by an independent regulatory commission, the club confirmed on July 31.

The Brazilian international had faced four serious charges from the Football Association (FA), which accused him of intentionally earning yellow cards in Premier League matches to manipulate betting outcomes. After a thorough hearing, the commission concluded the allegations were not proven, fully exonerating the 27-year-old of any match-fixing wrongdoing.

While Paquetá walks free from the most serious claims, the FA has upheld two lesser charges, relating to a failure to fully cooperate during the investigation. These matters will now proceed to a disciplinary hearing for potential sanctions.

Paquetá responded with relief, stating through the club:

“I have always maintained my innocence against these extremely serious accusations.”

West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady welcomed the decision:

“We are pleased Lucas has been cleared. He has maintained his innocence from the outset, and as a club, we have resolutely stood by him and supported him throughout the process.”

With his name cleared on the central charges, Paquetá is now expected to return his full attention to the pitch as West Ham prepares for the upcoming Premier League season. The club’s steadfast support during the prolonged investigation underlines their commitment to the player, and to due process.
