Nigeria has moved up third place into their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, following a 2-0 win in Rwanda on Friday night.

The Super Eagles played their debut game under new head coach Eric Chelle.  Victor Osimhen extended his scoring streak with a brace in the first half.

The striker, who has excelled for Galatasaray this season, opened the goal with a side-footed finish off Ademola Lookman’s free kick.

Osimhen increased the Eagles’ lead after grabbing the ball on the halfway line and dinking it over the goalkeeper.

The defeat moves the three-time African champions into third position in the group, following South Africa’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho.

The super eagles will face Zimbabwe next on Tuesday.
