The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has taken a significant step in encouraging girls to participate in rugby by appointing 15 coaches to lead the Rugby Rising Play Nigeria project.

Rugby Rising Play is World Rugby’s first bespoke girls’ participation program, created to introduce teenage girls to rugby in a fun and progressive way.

The selected coaches, recruited from Nigeria’s six geographical zones, will be overseen by Wuraola Hussain, a Rugby Africa accredited educator.

Their appointments were based on the completion of the World Rugby course, which focuses on enjoyment, fitness, inclusivity, and time management.

“We are excited to have these coaches on board to promote girls’ rugby in Nigeria,” said NRFF President, Kelechi Mbagwu.

“Our goal is to create pathways for young girls to get involved in rugby and develop their skills, and we believe these coaches will play a crucial role in achieving this objective.”
