The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has issued a three-year ban to Nigerian para powerlifter Kafilat Almaruf for breaking anti-doping standards.

According to an IPC statement, an anabolic compound of exogenous origin was discovered in Almaruf’s urine sample, which was collected outside of competition on July 11, 2024.

The statement clarified the testing process: “Almaruf’s (GC/C/IRMS) differentiates between anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) naturally produced by the body and prohibited anabolic agents of external origin.

“Exogenous anabolic steroids are included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2024 Prohibited List under the class S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) and are prohibited at all times.

Almaruf was provisionally suspended by the IPC on August 19, 2024, awaiting the resolution of her case. She has since accepted the ADRV and its intended ramifications.

Almaruf is prohibited from all competitions and other sports activities (except authorized anti-doping education or rehabilitation programs) for three years, beginning August 19, 2024 and ending August 18, 2027.
