Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of Edo State and current senator representing Edo North, has come out in support of his son, Cyril, who was recently appointed as the commissioner for health in the state.
Oshiomhole who stated this in an interview disclosed that Cyril is more than qualified for the role, being a medical doctor with impressive credentials.
Cyber Reporters reports that Cyril was nominated by Governor Monday Okpebholo, a close ally of Oshiomhole, and was sworn in on November 19 at the Government House in Benin City.
Oshiomhole revealed that he had initially expressed concerns to the governor about the potential backlash of appointing his son to the role.
However, he emphasized that Cyril’s qualifications and expertise in public health make him an ideal candidate for the position.
Cyril has already hit the ground running, inspecting health facilities in the state on his first day in office.
He has a strong educational background, having graduated from Ahmadu Bello University and completed post-graduate studies at Harvard and another university in Louisiana.
Oshiomhole is proud of the investment he made in his children’s education, ensuring they did not have to face the same challenges he did.
He is confident that Cyril’s appointment is not a result of nepotism, but rather a testament to his son’s hard work and qualifications.
As Oshiomhole put it, “He is having it in spite of being Oshiomhole.”
