The highly anticipated Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to severe weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh.

Cyber Reporters reports that high winds and heavy rain have caused widespread travel disruptions in western parts of the UK.

The decision to postpone the match was made following a meeting between Everton, Liverpool, local police, and Liverpool City Council.

The safety of fans, staff, and players was deemed to be at risk due to the adverse weather conditions.

Everton announced the postponement, citing safety concerns as the primary reason. “The safety of fans, staff, and players is of paramount importance,” the statement read.

The club apologized for any inconvenience caused to supporters and promised to provide updates on a new date for the match.

Cyber Reporters reports that this match was set to be the final Merseyside derby at Everton’s Goodison Park, their home since 1892, before they move to a new 53,000-capacity stadium next season.

The postponement is a disappointment to fans who were eagerly anticipating the match.

Liverpool currently leads the Premier League by seven points after 14 games. The team’s momentum will have to wait, as they now look forward to their next scheduled match.

The postponement is one of several in the UK, with Championship matches in Plymouth and Cardiff also called off due to a rare red weather warning issued by the MET office.
