Former Manchester United striker, Andy Cole has expressed disappointment over the club’s decision to let go of talented youngster, Angel Gomes.

Gomes, who spent 14 years at Manchester United’s academy, left the club in 2020 to join Lille.

Cole’s comments came as he reflected on Gomes’ recent rise to fame. The young midfielder has become a key player for Lille and has even earned four caps for England.

Cole praised Gomes’ determination and success, saying he was impressed by the youngster’s ability to thrive in France.

Despite initial doubts about his size and ability to succeed in the Premier League, Gomes has proven himself to be a skilled and dedicated player.

Cole acknowledged that Gomes faced criticism and skepticism during his time at Manchester United, stressing that he has since silenced his doubters with his performances in France.

Gomes’ success in France is a testament to his hard work and dedication. The young midfielder has taken advantage of the opportunities presented to him at Lille and has established himself as a key player for the club.

His performances have also caught the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate, who has handed him four international caps.

He said: “Being very honest, I was disappointed to see Angel Gomes leave [Man United] in the first place.

“He’s a very talented young man and you’re always going to have that type of nonsense where people say that he was too small for the Premier League and all that.

“But he’s moved to France, made a very good career for himself and represented England quite a few times, so fair play to him.”
