The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has announced plans to embark on a one-week warning strike beginning Monday, December 2, 2024.

Cyber Reporters understands that this move is in protest of the state government’s failure to implement the new national minimum wage.

According to the NLC State Chairman, Ogugua Egwu all affiliated unions in the state will join the strike to express their dissatisfaction with the government’s neglect of workers’ welfare.

Egwu explained that the decision to strike follows a directive from the national NLC, urging state councils to take action and demand the swift implementation of the new wage policy.

The directive was issued on November 8, 2024, and is based on collective bargaining agreements.

The NLC State Chairman emphasized that the strike is a necessary step to ensure that the rights of workers are upheld and the minimum wage is implemented without further delay.

He called on the state government to take immediate action to address the concerns of workers.

The one-week warning strike is expected to involve all unions under the NLC umbrella, including teachers, health workers, and other civil servants.
