The Edo State Governor’s committee, chaired by Kelly Okungbowa, has made significant progress in recovering stolen government vehicles.

Cyber Reporters gathered that the committee was inaugurated on Thursday in Benin, the state capital, and has been tasked with retrieving over 200 vehicles allegedly taken by former officials.

Within 24 hours of its inauguration, the committee successfully recovered three vehicles, including one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses.

Okungbowa disclosed that these vehicles were found in private custody, and their recovery is a major breakthrough for the committee.

During the recovery process, the committee also stumbled upon some palliatives, including bags of garri and rice, in one of the Toyota Hiace buses. These palliatives were meant to be distributed to the people of Edo State but were instead hoarded by individuals.

Okungbowa who appealed to the public for more information to aid the committee’s efforts, promised handsome rewards for whistleblowers who provide correct and verifiable tips.

The chairman assured Edo citizens and the state government that the committee will do its best to recover all stolen vehicles.

He said: “We have recovered one Hilux and two Toyota Hiace buses in private custody. We assure Edo people and the state government that we are going to do the job to the best of our ability. We will make sure we recover all the stolen vehicles.

“Report reaching us is that we have over 200 government vehicles missing. We appeal for more information as the whistleblowers will be handsomely rewarded.

“This is not private property but the property of Edo citizens, and it is not good for a private individual to steal government property.

“These vehicles were recovered from one person’s house. Palliatives were recovered from the Toyota Hiace bus as some garri and bags of rice were kept in the bus.”
