President Bola Tinubu disbands the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, and dismissed the recently appointed Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Nwokike, and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Odoh.

Additionally, he gave his approval for Ohieku Salami to be removed from his position as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Health Sciences Governing Council in Otukpo, Benue State.

This was revealed by the Presidency on Wednesday in a statement headed “President Tinubu sacks Nnamdi Azikiwe University Council, VC, and Registrar,” which was signed by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

The five other members of the NAU council, which was chaired by Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe, were Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin (retd.), Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, and Amioleran Osahon.

“The sacking of the governing council and officials followed reports that the council illegally appointed an unqualified vice-chancellor without following due process.

“After the controversial appointment, the Federal Government stepped in to address tensions between the university’s Senate and the Governing Council of the 33-year-old institution.

“The government expressed concern over the council’s apparent disregard for the university’s governing laws in its selection process,” said Onanuga.
