Augustine Eguavoen, caretaker coach of the Super Eagles, has reflected on Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Cyber Reporters reports that the match, held in Abidjan on Thursday night, was a tightly contested encounter.

The Cheetahs of Benin Republic took the lead through Mohammed Tijani’s 16th-minute goal, putting pressure on the Super Eagles.

However, Nigeria’s resilience paid off as Victor Osimhen scored a crucial equalizer eight minutes from time.

Eguavoen praised his team’s spirited display, particularly in the second half. “It was a tough game, and I congratulate the players for a spirited display in the second half that earned us the equalizers,” he stated.

The heavy downpour during the match made conditions difficult for both teams, but Eguavoen remained optimistic.

Despite the challenges, Nigeria secured a vital point, keeping their momentum alive in the qualifying campaign.

With this result, Nigeria has already secured their ticket to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Eguavoen expressed delight at achieving this milestone ahead of their final qualifying game against Rwanda in Uyo on Monday.

Looking ahead, Eguavoen said his focus is on building momentum and fine-tuning his team’s strategy for the AFCON finals.

The Super Eagles’ next match against Rwanda provides an opportunity to refine their tactics and make a strong statement before the tournament.
