Wike to Atiku: No Chance in PDP for 2027 Presidency

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed doubts about Atiku Abubakar’s chances of securing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ticket for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike noted that Nigerians have consistently rejected Atiku’s vision, despite his repeated attempts to share it.

This comes after Atiku’s unsuccessful presidential bid in 2023, where he claimed his leadership style would differ from President Bola Tinubu’s and alleviate the country’s hardship.

Wike questioned the feasibility of Atiku’s candidacy, asking: “Didn’t he present his blueprint to Nigerians? And did they choose him? Now he’s seeking another chance, but that opportunity won’t come.”

He also drew parallels with the American political landscape, citing how Americans made their decision on Trump despite controversies.

Wike concluded that Nigerians did not find Atiku’s proposals fitting in 2023, and mere criticism does not signify resonance with the people.

It is worth noting that Atiku Abubakar has a long history in Nigerian politics, having served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007 and running for President six times.

His political journey has seen him switch parties and face various challenges, including a contentious relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

As the 2027 elections approach, Wike’s statement adds to the uncertainty surrounding Atiku’s potential candidacy.
