A devastating fire broke out in Ilorin, Kwara State’s capital, on Saturday morning, gutting a structure and affecting multiple shops.

Cyber Reporters gathered that the incident occurred around the Adeta roundabout at 02:39 hours, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to Hassan Adekunle, spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, firefighters responded promptly to find approximately 25 shops engulfed in flames.

However, thanks to their swift action and bravery, only three shops suffered damage, including a soft drinks and alcohol shop.

Adekunle said preliminary investigations revealed that a power surge was the likely cause of the fire.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Prince John Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed sympathy for the affected shop owners, offering prayers for the restoration of their losses.

He also emphasized the need for the public to prioritize safety.

To prevent similar incidents, Olumuyiwa urged the public to ensure all electrical appliances are unplugged when not in use.

In the aftermath of this incident, the community is coming together to support those affected.
