The Federal Government has created a cutting-edge monitoring center to monitor the Third Mainland Bridge and its surroundings, Cyber Reporters report.

Senator Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, made the announcement on Thursday in Lagos while leading members of the National Assembly on an on-site evaluation of current infrastructure projects in the Southwest area, including the Third Mainland Bridge.

Umahi indicated that the control room would be staffed by security professionals from the Army, Navy, Police, and local law enforcement.

In order to respond to any emergency quickly—within five minutes—a specialized boat and trucks had been allocated to the site, he noted.

The minister also disclosed that other key highways, including as the Lagos-Calabar, Sokoto-Badagry, Trans-Sahara, Abuja-Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe, Keffi-Makurdi, Lagos-Ibadan, and Abuja-Kano roads, would also receive comparable high-tech security measures.

He also revealed plans to equip all main roadways with solar illumination in order to increase nighttime visibility and stimulate the economy.

Additionally, Umahi stated that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway’s first segment was almost finished and would receive a concession for upkeep and operation.

Senator Peter Nwebonyi, the Senate’s Deputy Chief Whip, praised the minister’s initiative to set up a CCTV control room to keep an eye on the Third Mainland Bridge and the surrounding area.

He claims that this project shows Nigeria’s dedication to advancement and development.

He said that by discouraging criminal activity and preventing damage to vital infrastructure like handrails and street lights, the CCTV system will improve the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
