Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sounded a warning to Nigerians, emphasizing the extreme dangers of collecting fuel from overturned tankers.

Atiku’s caution comes after a disturbing viral video showed residents in Cross River State retrieving petrol from a fallen tanker, oblivious to the risks.

His warning is timely, considering the recent tragic incident in Jigawa’s Majiya town.

Cyber Reporters recall on October 16, over 180 lives were lost, and many others sustained injuries while attempting to scoop fuel from a tanker that veered off the road and exploded.

He emphasized that petrol is highly flammable and handling it in such hazardous conditions is essentially risking one’s life.

Atiku urged concerned government agencies to launch a comprehensive campaign educating citizens on the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen tankers.

This initiative aims to prevent further tragedies and raise awareness about the risks involved.

He said:

“I know that the times are tough for Nigerians. However, your lives are the most precious things that should never be mortgaged.

“This is why it is pertinent that the concerned government MDAs should commence a robust campaign to educate citizens on the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen petroleum tankers.

“Your lives matter to you and your loved ones. Scooping petrol, a highly flammable liquid from a fallen tanker, is a suicide that no one should undertake.

“We’ve experienced too many tragedies from incidents such as the latest one in Cross River State, and everything must be done to avert another. -AA”
