President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to verify and examine the nominations of seven ministerial nominees announced in Abuja on Wednesday.

The president made the request in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read at the start of Thursday’s plenary.

On Wednesday, the president made changes to his cabinet, appointing seven new ministers in place of the five he had fired.

Ministers Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (State, Housing and Urban Development), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), and Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development) were fired.

The ministerial nominees, as contained in the letter, are Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment and Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs.

Others are Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Development; Idi Muktar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing; and Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State, Education.

In the letter, Tinubu asked the Senate to give his request prompt consideration.

As a result, Akpabio declared that the Senate would shortly refer the presidential request to the committee of the whole for review.

“Distinguished colleagues, the committee of the whole will be considering the presidential request shortly,” he stated.
