Chelsea’s Hopes Damaged after Brighton Defeat

Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League this season are all but shot after they slumped to seventh in the table following a turgid 2-0 defeat at Brighton.

The Blues lined up in an experimental three-at-the-back formation at the AmEx and promptly discovered it was not a winning formula, as Ferdi Kadioglu opened the scoring three minutes in.

Jack Hinshelwood missed a one-on-one shortly before the break and Chelsea were slightly improved after it, but he was there to double the hosts’ advantage mere minutes into the second-half.

The Blues could not find a way back into the match – even before Danny Welbecks’ late third – and have now lost five consecutive Premier League matches, failing to score in any of them
